To help develop speed and accuracy when flatpicking, make sure your pick face stays parallel to the strings, not at an angle. This will also give you a cleaner sound and better control. When you are learning your scales, you can save a lot of time and memorization if you use patterns that dont include open strings. You will be able to move those scales up and down the neck to fit any key without having to memorize a whole new finger pattern. When creating solos or melodies in a major key and playing over a dominant seventh chord, you may treat the major sixth as a chord tone. You can skip to or from a minor sixth to or from any other chord tone. |
