With the closing of MARS Music I have switched exclusively to private instruction. I am currently offering classes for guitar (acoustic, electric, or classical), bass, and songwriting. All lessons are one-on-one, individual instruction so students can progress at their own pace and work on things that interest them. I strive to give each student the tools they need to play the music they want. Introduction to Playing Guitar

Playing guitar isn’t that different from anything else in life. You get out of it pretty much what you put into it. There aren’t any shortcuts or magic wands that I can wave to make you a better player. A good foundation is important, so I recommend starting with the basics and making sure you don’t develop any of those bad habits that can be so hard to break later on.

While there are a lot of things that go into good technique, there are very few hard-and-fast-always-all-the-time rules. You should take the information here as a guideline, but remember to be flexible and don’t get thrown off if something down the line doesn’t conform exactly.

Guitar Tip

Regular practice is the key to progress. Set up a regular schedule and keep to it! Practicing a little everyday is the best way, usually a half hour is enough. Divide your practice time – do your new material first, then go back and review previous lessons.
